ENGAGE #5

GOD IS A JUDGE

WHAT THIS MEANS:
The video and scripture below present a different perspective than maybe we are used to . . .

ACTION:
1. Watch the video "Balance Beam" below.
2. Read Matthew 25:14-30

3. Reflect on your own life. What are you doing with the gifts God has given you to use for him? Are you holding on to the balance beam? Are you burying your gifts and keeping them safe?  Are you living the "safe" Christian life?

PRAY: Ask God to show you how and where you can invest the gifts he has given you. Ask him to give you the courage to start walking the beam, not playing the "safe" typical Christian life.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
(these are intended to help get discussion started - please do not feel confined to these questions: comment as you like!)
When you think of God as a judge, have you ever thought of him this way?  If we were to really stop playing it safe as Christians, what would it look like?

  1. after reading matthew 25:14-30 i was utterly confused. i mean, yes, i know you are supposed to use your talents for good and not hide them and such, but the parable said that the man entrusted his property to them. meaning, keep it safe. not go out and gamble to see if you can profit from it. to me, investing something doesn't always mean you are sure of the outcome. like stocks for example. but i think the servant with one talent of money did the right thing by keeping his promise to his master. wouldn't you be disappointed if you trusted someone with your money and they lost it all? i know i would be. i just don't see how the one servant was punished for doing what his master asked of him.
